| THE CRISES OF DEMOCRACY IN PAKISTAN There is a growing demand and struggle for restoration of Democracy in Pakistan .According to President Musharaf democratic government had been formed after elections---2002 but what the politicians & judiciary demand is a civilian led Democracy. Election campaign has started for the polling due in February, 18, 2008, but without any trust on the Election Commission and with continuous reporting of pre-election rigging. Under the prevailing circumstances, holding of the Elections would further spoil the atmosphere. The Government must immediately take following measures to ensure non-controversial elections: 1. Formation of a National Government in consultation with opposition parties. 2. An independent and neutral Election Commission should be ensured. 3. Equal opportunities and facilities for election campaigning be provided to all political parties. 4. Safety and security arrangements are ensured for all political leaders. 5. No military role in National Government formed for holding the elections. 6. Free hand to Media is ensured. Media must feel its responsibility and avoid spreading harassment and rumors. It is hoped that such arrangements would bring in National harmony and election results would be acceptable to all political parties.Going for elections without a national consensus would be not advisable. | |
